The FEI Rider and Competitor:
FEI level rider and instructor,  USDF Grand Prix Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medalist and S judge, Sue Kolstad
has studied in Europe with many international masters of the equestrian arts.  Earning her Bachelors of Arts in Education, she taught school for seven years before taking on horses full time. In her mid 20’s she became an avid student of the horse.  She started riding at home in Wisconsin with Lois Heyerdahal and then apprenticed five years with Nick Pawlenko before going out on her own -  continuing her education with Tom Valter, Carol Grant, Conrad Schumacher, Michael Barrison, and Bo Jena.

Sue spent many years as a successful eventer, taking the gelding Stars and Stripes to the preliminary level, but now concentrates on her passion - Dressage. She has successfully campaigned two Grand Prix dressage horses, Scarabeaus and Prometheus, winning her USDF Grand Prix Gold medal on Scarabeaus. Sue campaigned the Danish Warmblood Gelding Fruhlich to the top of the rankings.  Fruhlich was the top Danish Warmblood I-1 Freestyle horse in the country, ranking 17th overall. Sue successfully brought him out and campaigned him at Grand Prix.  Since his coming out, Fruhlich has been sold to an adult amateur showing at PSG and I-1 with scores from 65-69%.  His new owner/rider, Jennifer Benoit who was Prix St. George and I-1 Reserve Champion in Region 8. Then Jennifer competed Fruelich at Grand Prix, winning her USDF Gold medal and accrued enough scores to fulfill the requirements to enter the S-Judge program. Due to the birth of her son, Fruelich has been sold to Catherine Teifer from Oak Tree Farm in Michigan. He is now the king of the barn and being deservedly pampered and properly spoiled.  Catherine and Fruelich recently completed a clinic with Jeannie McDonald, an I-Judge and popular clinician.

The Student:
Maintaining a very full schedule, Sue is currently competing, holding clinics and teaching private lessons from Florida to Alaska.  Convinced that a rider is always a work in progress, Sue pursues her own classical education with enthusiasm - riding for the finest international dressage clinicians whenever possible.  Among those with whom Sue has, or is continuing to study are Bo Jena (SWE), Tom Valter (USA), Michael and Sharon Poulin, (USA) Silke Rembacz (GER).  Sue has also ridden with Juan Matute (ESP), Jan Brink (SWE),  and Dr. Ceasar Parra (USA). Currently, Sue has ridden, by invitation, for Steffan Peters, (USA) and has completed an intense clinic with Olympic Gold Medalist Ulla Salzgeber (GER).  Sue is sought after USEF S-Judge.
