CLINICS/CLINICIANS

EDDO HOEKSTRA

A native Dutchman, Eddo came to Bermuda in the 1980s and was a watershed for Bermuda dressage.  Through his tireless devotion to the pursuit of dressage he instilled in his pupils and horses the importance of classical riding and the correct basics.  Having trained in Germany as a Bereiter he coached numerous horses and riders and undoubtedly improved the level of riding and understanding of the classical art of dressage in Bermuda.

Eddo is fully devoted to dressage as a sport and as an art. He has competed internationally at FEI levels, and nationally at Grand Prix. Eddo has trained with renowned coaches such as Olympic rider Robert Dover (USA) and currently rides with Walter Zettl (Canada). Other coaches that have had a strong influence on his riding/training approach are Jan Kluijtmans (Holland), George Williams (USA), Anne Rawle (USA) and Rick Klaassen (Germany)

Due to his training approach he is a very sought after clinician both in Canada, where he now resides, and abroad. When at home at the Hoekstra Dressage Institute training facility in Peterborough, Eddo works with his students and their horses.

LEIDA COLLINS-STRIJK
JUNE 2010

Leida grew up in a small town in the south of Holland, very close to Stal Van Baalen, where she spent 10 years training under Dutch Olympic Team Dressage rider Coby van Baalen.

At the age of 21 Leida was recruited by well-known talent sponsors at that time, and under their sponsorship, Leida was given the ride on Wempe Jewel, with whom in a very short time was named "Young Talent of the Future" and earned a spot on the Dutch team for the European Championships in Lipica 1993, and the World Equestrian Games at The Hague in 1996.

After working for Sponsors Bollvorm, Leida moved to breeding station The Havikerwaard. With the Havikervaard's stallion Welcome she achieved many high scores, particularly in Aachen 1998.

Since then Leida has had many international successes with Grand prix horses Just Mickey and Dutch small tour champion Hunter to name a few. More recently her international status is recognised aboard Grand prix horses ON TOP and REX.

In addition to being a very talented horsewoman Leida is a devoted mother to her two little boys Sebastian and Christian, and new born baby Michael. Leida is married to Bermudian three-day eventer Tim Collins, and kindly presented trophies at the BDG's Annual General Meeting in June of 2010.  The following day she watched BDG President Michelle Ingham and Vice President Dawn Fox go through their paces on their respective horses.
