President’s Report
I would like to welcome you all to our Annual General
Meeting, Prizegiving and barbecue. I am also thrilled
to have Michelle Ingham and Joy Nash back on the Board.
They were the face of the BDG this season. Joy has
redesigned and updated the website, and Michelle has
organized our major shows and acted as liason with all
the stables. In August 2009, Kelly Glazebrook stepped
down as Vice President/Terceira stable representative
and invaluable ring constructor; the Board therefore
made the decision to hire Michael Rodrigues to take over
this task.
In September Bermudian Chris Taylor judged our show and
conducted clinics. Michelle did a super job putting
together the show schedule – this show offered USEF
tests, World Dressage Challenge tests and Prix Caprilli
test.
October 2nd and 3rd last year
Tyler Lopes attended the Children of the Americas
Dressage Invitational finishing 2nd overall
with 70% and attaining 76.6% in the musical Kur gaining
a first place position. Overall he came an admirable
second place, the winner scoring 73.434% and Tyler
73.304%, so it was very close. The Bermuda Dressage
Group paid for Tyler’s flight at a cost of $387.45.
In October also, the BDG hosted the Caribbean Equestrian
Association’s Bermuda portion of the Mini Dressage
Challenge held on Oct 15th and 16th.
In December a Christmas show slated for December 13th at
Spicelands’ Riding Centre had to be postponed the week
prior due to suspected cases of strangles.
On February 17th 2010 Bermuda’s World
Dressage Challenge Team won Group 10 with the following
results :
Ashley Gibbs FEI Preliminary Test for Juniors 67%
Ann Lindroth FEI Elementary Test 63%
Dawn Fox FEI Elementary Test 69%
Suzette Sailsman FEI Medium Test 64%
Country results were:
1st Bermuda 67.02%
2nd Cayman Islands 65.67%
3rd Trinidad and Tobago 64.28%
4th Barbados 63.91%
5th Jamaica 63.34%
On
March 14th our Combined Training Show was
judged by Nicky Vogel as a replacement for an injured
Sally O’Connor. Prior torrential rain made setting up
difficult and the committee were admirably helped out
notably by Charlie Oleksak, Peter Belton and Ann
Lindroth.
In May the BDG held the postponed December Christmas
Show, renamed “Christmas in May” with impressive
entries, although some complained the entries for
gymkhana events were expensive.
Next year I will be stepping down and we will have a new
President, Michelle Ingham. Helen Terceira is also
regrettably stepping down.
